Tongue & Groove Flooring / Strip Flooring

There really is nothing more majestic and rustic than hardwood floors. Most classical homes, especially those found in the countryside, exude elegance through its shiny hardwood floors that speak of nothing but sophistication.

Aside from the wide range of colours and styles, there are also different ways by which these hardwood floors may be installed. The method usually depends of many factors like the time, the money and the current state of the area that you would want to install the flooring in. To date, there are three methods by which these hardwood floors are installed.

First is the direct installation on the concrete floors. This is done primarily by gluing the solid timber to the concrete. While the method is not available for all species, it is applicable for more popular ones like Victorian Ash, Blackbutt and Spotted Gum among others. One factor considered in this method is the hardness of the species. The adhesive used is a special polyurethane compound is carefully studied by the experts at Sydney Timber Flooring. This is considered as the most contemporary of the three methods as it aims to save more time and effort when installing.

Another method is the use of plywood over the concrete base. This plywood serves as the platform for the hardwood to be installed. Before the main installation of the hardwood, a plywood sheet floor is set up in the concrete floor. The floorboards are fixed to the plywood sheet using secret nailing. This method not only retains the aesthetics of the design but also keeps its safe and strong since protruding nails are avoided.

The third method is with battens. These battens serve as frames for the floorboards. Battens are anchored to the concrete slab but at specific points only. This method allows the installation to be above the main floor therefore protecting previously used materials like carpets and tiles. Also, this method is highly suitable for rented areas like apartments and offices since they do not directly affect the base flooring. Also, the floorboards can be easily removed once the tenants decide to move out. This type of applications is applicable for all species of hardwood.

As mentioned above, the method of application is based on various factors. Therefore, it is best to seek the advice of professionals when deciding. Visit the Sydney Timber Flooring showroom for advice and quotations – free of charge!
